Experiencing pain during sex is undoubtedly distressing and can create significant strain on the intimacy within a relationship. It’s commendable that you’ve taken proactive steps like using lubricant to alleviate discomfort, but persistent pain warrants further investigation and consideration of alternative solutions.

Dyspareunia, or pain during intercourse, can arise from a multitude of factors, ranging from physical to psychological origins. While inadequate lubrication is a common culprit, other potential causes include vaginal infections, pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, hormonal imbalances, or emotional factors such as anxiety or past trauma.

Seeking guidance from a healthcare provider specialising in sexual health, such as a gynaecologist or a sexual medicine specialist, is essential for a comprehensive assessment and personalised treatment plan. They can conduct thorough examinations to identify any underlying issues and recommend appropriate interventions.

For example, if vaginal dryness is the primary concern, they may suggest topical oestrogen therapy or other moisturising agents to enhance lubrication and reduce friction. In cases where pelvic floor muscle dysfunction contributes to discomfort, physical therapy techniques such as pelvic floor exercises or biofeedback training may be beneficial.

Additionally, addressing any psychological barriers through counselling or therapy can help alleviate anxiety or emotional distress associated with sexual activity. Exploring different sexual positions that minimise pressure on sensitive areas, practising relaxation techniques, and engaging in open communication with your partner about your needs and boundaries are also essential strategies for managing pain during sex and fostering a supportive and understanding relationship dynamic.

Remember, addressing pain during sex requires patience, understanding, and a collaborative approach between partners. By seeking professional guidance, maintaining open communication, and exploring various interventions, you can work towards overcoming discomfort and restoring intimacy in your relationship.

Experiencing pain during sex can be due to various reasons like vaginal dryness, infections, or psychological factors. Seeking professional help and open communication with your partner are crucial steps to address and overcome this issue.

"The prevalence of dyspareunia varies from 3 to 18% worldwide, and it can affect 10 to 28% of the population in a lifetime.”
