Post-Ejaculatory Urinary Hesitancy

Hello. I am a male, 24 years old, and having trouble with urination after ejaculation. I also experience hesitancy of urine. I've been experiencing urine hesitancy and urine difficulty after ejaculation sometimes (especially after ejaculating when my bladder is full, I feel it is difficult to release it immediately and it takes some time, which makes me feel difficult and uncomfortable). What should I do and how can I treat this problem?

Hello! It sounds like you’re experiencing some issues with urination after ejaculation, especially when your bladder is full. This can be uncomfortable and frustrating, but there are ways to manage it.

What you’re experiencing is not uncommon. After ejaculation, the muscles around the prostate and bladder neck can remain tense for a short period, making it harder to start urinating immediately. This is often called post-ejaculatory urinary hesitancy.

Here are a few tips to help you manage this:

  • Empty Your Bladder Before Sex: Try to urinate before you engage in sexual activity. This can help reduce the amount of urine in your bladder, making it easier to urinate afterward.
  • Relaxation Techniques: Practise deep breathing or other relaxation techniques to help relax your pelvic muscles after ejaculation. Taking a few moments to calm your body can make urination easier.
  • Warm Bath or Shower: Taking a warm bath or shower after ejaculation can help relax your muscles and make it easier to urinate.
  • Hydration: Make sure you are well-hydrated. Drinking enough water throughout the day can help ensure that your urine flows more easily.

Post-Ejaculatory Urinary Hesitancy

If these tips don’t help and you continue to have difficulties, it’s a good idea to see a healthcare provider. There might be an underlying issue, such as prostatitis or an obstruction, that needs medical attention.

A doctor can provide a more precise diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatments, which could include medications or lifestyle changes. Remember, it’s important to take care of your health, and seeking help when needed is a positive step.

If you’re having trouble urinating after ejaculation, try urinating before sex and using relaxation techniques. If the problem continues, consult a healthcare provider.

Urinary hesitancy can be caused by various factors, including prostate issues, nerve damage, and infections.
Relaxation and ensuring proper hydration can help alleviate symptoms of urinary hesitancy.
